The Early Childhood Education major (Birth-Grade 3) with a focus on Special Education aims to equip future teachers with skills to nurture children's holistic development. This program emphasizes creating stimulating, research-backed learning environments that support all young children through developmentally appropriate practices and play-based approaches. The learner-focused curriculum covers essential subjects including Literacy, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, preparing graduates to work with children from infancy through third grade across diverse settings such as homes, childcare centers, preschool programs, elementary classrooms, and special education contexts. This interdisciplinary program is administered by the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, drawing coursework from multiple departments including Counseling and Special Education, Teacher Education, English, Mathematics, Social Studies, and the College of Science and Engineering.
