The Master of Arts in Licensure (MAL) program is designed for individuals holding an undergraduate music degree (excluding music education) who seek teaching certification for public schools while advancing their music education studies. This six-semester program blends approximately 23 credit hours of music education licensure coursework with 12 hours of student teaching and 30 hours of graduate-level music studies. Upon completion, graduates qualify for Ohio's P-12 Music teaching license, which may be reciprocated in other states. Additional state requirements include passing the Ohio Assessments for Educators exam and clearing background checks. Key program features include a collaborative academic environment offering individualized support, hands-on training with globally renowned faculty, and graduate assistantship opportunities in research, instruction, and ensemble direction. Admitted students benefit from tuition waivers and funded assistantship positions.
