Biochemistry covers a vast and continuously expanding range of subjects, all centered on examining biomedical challenges at the molecular level. Researchers in this field uncover foundational insights that help decipher life's mechanisms, from analyzing single proteins and DNA strands to regulating genetic activity across whole organ systems. These breakthroughs pave the way for treatments targeting conditions like metabolic diseases, cancers, and pathogen infections.
Within the School of Medicine, the Biochemistry Department provides both BA and BS degree programs along with a minor option. Students gain excellent preparation through biochemical studies: whether pursuing medical or professional education, entering elite graduate programs, securing research roles in biotech/pharmaceutical industries or academic institutions, or embarking on diverse careers requiring biomedical expertise (such as finance, consulting, media, patent law, or teaching).
