World literature, often referred to as comparative literature, examines literary works from a worldwide perspective across all genres. This discipline explores how language becomes art through poetic expression in novels, poems, plays, and musical compositions. Throughout history, societies have relied on literature—both spoken and written—to articulate fundamental beliefs, anxieties, sorrows, aspirations, and ambitions. Literary works both reflect reality and imagine possibilities, simultaneously shaping cultural identity while sometimes challenging its foundations. Literature can serve to preserve heritage or act as a catalyst for societal transformation.

The exchange between literary traditions across continents continuously evolves the art form, creating what might be described as an international creative dialogue. World Literature challenges traditional hierarchies by valuing diverse cultural expressions equally with established Western or Eastern canons.
