To earn a Bachelor of Arts with a dance major, students must complete 41 credit hours from the Dance Department's course offerings. This includes 15 credits in Modern/Contemporary technique, 6 in Ballet technique, 3 in Dance History, and 2 in production (crew) courses. The remaining elective credits are selected with advisor guidance from areas like Dance Science/Wellness, Cultural Dance Studies, Production Resources, Teaching Methods, and Choreography.
Graduates will develop skills in integrating historical, cultural, and social concepts within modern/contemporary dance and global dance traditions.
Students will learn to evaluate movement from anatomical and kinesiological viewpoints, recognizing common technical challenges and injury prevention strategies in dance wellness. They'll acquire foundational teaching skills for designing introductory technique classes and semester-long course plans. The program fosters scholarly and artistic research capabilities while advancing technical proficiency, musical interpretation, dynamic control, spatial consciousness, and expressive performance in advanced ballet and modern dance techniques.
