The Biology BA program offers a broad foundation in biological sciences and features the most adaptable scheduling among the three biology degree options. This program is ideal for pre-professional students, those pursuing multiple majors, planning to study abroad or complete internships, or with substantial extracurricular activities (such as collegiate sports, student leadership, fraternity/sorority involvement, or other campus engagements). While undergraduate research isn't mandatory for the Biology BA, students considering research-oriented graduate studies should incorporate at least one semester of research electives (BIOL 388 or BIOL 388S) during their final year.
The BA in Biology includes fundamental core courses while allowing concentration in diverse fields like biotechnology, genetic engineering, molecular/cellular biology, immunology, chemical biology, neurobiology, animal behavior, ecology, and environmental sciences. Hands-on research projects play a central role in the program. Qualified upper-level biology majors may enroll in graduate-level courses within the department or School of Medicine, with faculty approval.
