The Master of Arts in English and Writing Studies empowers students to develop as socially engaged, adaptable writers capable of making meaningful impacts in their professional fields and communities. Graduates emerge equipped for careers in secondary or higher education, advanced academic pursuits, and other professions requiring strong writing, research, and critical thinking skills. The curriculum provides a comprehensive interdisciplinary grounding in English studies with five specialized tracks to enhance professional capabilities and support individual career aspirations:

Applied Linguistics and TESL
Composition and Rhetoric
Literature
Pedagogy
Public and Professional Writing

These diverse concentrations foster a dynamic, cross-disciplinary learning atmosphere where students can explore courses and research opportunities beyond traditional boundaries. Numerous participants opt to combine two concentration areas. Students frequently highlight the benefits of our intimate class sizes and close-knit academic community. The program actively promotes professional growth through workshops and discussions on conference applications, community college positions, and doctoral program admissions. We also provide a compensated Teaching Associate initiative with robust mentorship, enabling participants to instruct undergraduate composition or literature courses.
