Our program provides a diverse range of skill-building courses including French Translation, French Phonetics, Introduction to Reading & Interpretation, along with practical labs in French Conversation and Writing. Beyond language skills, you'll explore French and francophone culture through cinema, music, art, history, literature, culinary traditions, and business-focused intercultural communication. Through the French Consortium, you can access online courses taught by distinguished faculty from four additional CSU campuses. The B.A. in French offers two pathways: the 23-unit French Language and Cultures track or the 11-unit French Studies option, ideal for students combining French with another major (or even two other majors). Students focusing on other fields may opt for the 19-unit French Minor.
Our graduates have established rewarding careers across multiple sectors such as education, translation, government, business, and the arts. A French specialization complements various degrees including Art, International Business, History, Philosophy, Political Science, and Liberal Studies. CSUSB alumni pursuing advanced degrees at prestigious institutions like Middlebury College in Paris and CSU Long Beach consistently credit their French studies as excellent preparation for graduate-level academic challenges.
