Temple University's Department of Spanish and Portuguese equips students for our diverse, interconnected 21st-century world. You'll gain intensive language training alongside a comprehensive liberal arts education. By studying the languages, cultures, and literatures of Spain, Latin America, and Portuguese-speaking regions, students develop bilingual proficiency in essential liberal arts abilities: effective writing and speaking, analytical thinking, and practical experience. The curriculum includes specialized offerings in business Spanish, legal terminology, healthcare communication, and translation/interpreting alongside traditional language and literature courses. Both majors and non-majors can customize their studies to align with career aspirations and academic interests. Through the innovative Plus1 Accelerated Program, Spanish majors in the College of Liberal Arts can earn their bachelor's degree followed by a Master's in Secondary Education within one additional year. This graduate program fulfills Pennsylvania's certification requirements for teaching Spanish at all grade levels (PreK-12).
