The CSUSB English Department fosters a dynamic community of educators, researchers, and creative writers dedicated to advancing English Studies through interdisciplinary approaches. Our Bachelor's program uniquely combines four specialized fields often treated separately: literary analysis, creative composition, language science, and rhetorical studies. Participants develop comprehensive expertise in language's creative, analytical, and functional dimensions through diverse textual engagement. This foundation equips alumni for professional paths in communications, marketing, education, technology, healthcare, and beyond, while also providing excellent preparation for advanced studies in fields ranging from legal to medical professions. Graduates emerge particularly well-equipped for meaningful community involvement and civic leadership roles.

The curriculum features a shared foundational core complemented by four specialized tracks in literature, linguistics, creative expression, or rhetorical studies. For greater customization, we offer an individualized concentration option where students, guided by faculty mentors, can design personalized academic pathways. Our teacher preparation track additionally qualifies future secondary educators for CSET waivers prior to credential program enrollment.
