The Rehabilitation Counseling specialization equips students with targeted expertise to support individuals facing disabilities, addiction, and co-occurring conditions. This program prepares graduates for diverse professional environments such as private practices, community organizations, educational institutions, and government agencies. Participants cultivate competencies to assess both medical and psychosocial dimensions of disabilities and their relationship to concurrent issues like substance use and mental health challenges.
Graduates qualify for both the Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) certification and the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) designation. This clinically-focused MS Counseling program combines theoretical instruction with hands-on learning, featuring a 100-hour practicum and 600 hours of supervised fieldwork. Designed as a three-year full-time curriculum, students complete 9-12 units each semester. Participants join a cohort that progresses through a structured course sequence, fostering peer support and professional networks. The program encourages professional development through engagement with counseling associations, research initiatives, conference presentations, and participation in CSUS multicultural events and our Chi Sigma Iota chapter. Faculty mentors guide students in leadership roles and research projects. The curriculum encompasses foundational coursework, intensive clinical training at our campus facility, personal growth components, advanced theoretical studies, and a culminating field placement experience.
