The Master of Music graduate program offers diverse opportunities for advanced musical studies. This program aims to cultivate graduates who excel in research, possess strong organizational and writing abilities, and demonstrate creativity in developing innovative approaches. Students will gain comprehensive knowledge of music history and literature, enabling them to apply this understanding with artistic proficiency as performers or conductors.

The MM degree can be pursued with either an academic or performance focus, effectively preparing students for doctoral programs. Study concentrations are available in three primary areas: Conducting, Composition, and Performance.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants to the graduate program in Music must meet the following requirements:

a baccalaureate degree with a music major,
a minimum 3.0 GPA in the last 60 units, and
successful audition or composition portfolio review (see the School of Music website for audition information).
Fully classified graduate status is granted after successful completion of nine units of graduate work. The student must file for a change in status, using a form available from the Music Department's Graduate Coordinator.
