The graduate program in Multicultural Education delves into bilingualism, multiculturalism, educational equity, and social justice through both theory and practice, equipping educators with the knowledge and tools to thrive in diverse classroom, school, and agency settings across our state. This program enhances students' teaching, analytical, and strategic planning abilities, empowering them to shape, execute, and assess educational initiatives that impact K-12 learners from low-income, culturally diverse, and multilingual backgrounds.
Faculty members model the same inclusive practices the program advocates for public schools. Both credential candidates and graduate students are encouraged to incorporate languages beyond English in academic and instructional environments. Our instructors and supervisors bring specialized knowledge and firsthand experience in bilingual and multicultural education. We are committed to guiding students as they critically evaluate educational theories and methodologies through a multicultural lens, considering factors like gender, race, language, socioeconomic status, and ability. Ultimately, we aim to prepare graduates to lead transformative changes toward an education system that ensures fairness for all students, regardless of linguistic or cultural background.
