The Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art is a four-year degree program offering students a comprehensive foundation for advanced studies or diverse artistic careers. This B.A. curriculum covers core fine arts disciplines including ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and interdisciplinary/new media arts. The program balances technical skill development with creative exploration while exposing students to global perspectives in visual arts theory, contemporary art history, and critical analysis. Designed for undergraduates, it integrates expansive studio art practice with a robust liberal arts education.
The Art Department's courses, programs, and exhibitions foster visual arts engagement within a liberal arts framework while cultivating art appreciation across campus. Students can pursue fieldwork opportunities at prominent institutions like the Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, and regional galleries. Study abroad options are available through Sacramento State's Office of International Programs and Global Engagement, as well as the CSU International Program, allowing students to earn university credit for semester or year-long programs at institutions worldwide, including locations in Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa, and Australia.
