The Bachelor of Arts in Social Work is a 48-credit program designed to equip students with foundational skills for entry-level social work practice. Students must complete all lower-division general education requirements before starting the Social Work major. The program includes 42 credits of core professional foundation courses and 6 credits of Social Work electives. A minimum grade of C is required in all major coursework. Students must commit to following the National Association of Social Workers' Code of Ethics and maintain ethical professional standards.
BASW graduates will develop proficiency in nine essential social work competencies required by the Council on Social Work Education for accredited programs. These competencies, demonstrated at the generalist level, include: 1) Ethical professional conduct, 2) Working with diverse populations, 3) Promoting human rights and social justice, 4) Integrating research into practice, 5) Policy engagement, 6) Working across various client systems, 7) Conducting assessments, 8) Implementing interventions, and 9) Evaluating practice effectiveness with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.
