The Liberal Studies program offers an interdisciplinary major that integrates diverse fields of knowledge through a multidisciplinary approach. This curriculum delivers a comprehensive academic experience promoting scholarly achievement, diversity and inclusion, community engagement, and teamwork. Tailored for future California elementary or special education teachers, as well as those pursuing interdisciplinary studies, the program's foundation includes coursework in reading, language arts, mathematics, sciences, social studies, arts, physical education, human development, health, and practical fieldwork.
Approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, this major equips educators with robust interdisciplinary knowledge essential for effective teaching. Additionally, it serves as strong preparation for various professions including government, public administration, business, counseling, law, library science, public health, and graduate studies.
Given the program's complexity, regular advisor consultations are crucial. Students engage in semesterly advising sessions for personalized academic guidance. To earn a Bachelor of Arts degree, completion of 120 units and the University's foreign language requirement is mandatory. Early academic planning is strongly recommended to ensure timely fulfillment of all degree requirements.
