The Master of Arts in History provides advanced education in historical research, writing, and teaching methodologies. With intentionally limited seminar sizes, the program fosters close collaboration between students and professors. Flexible enrollment options include full-time or part-time study, with course offerings available during both daytime and evening hours. The curriculum encompasses historical methodology, specialized focus areas (such as U.S. History, Modern European History, Latin American History, California History, and Ancient/World History), plus career preparation for education, archival work, and public history sectors. Alumni have secured teaching positions in secondary and higher education, entered museum and archival professions, and been accepted into prestigious doctoral programs. This 30-unit degree (ten courses) culminates with a research enhancement project where students refine a paper for potential publication, or optionally, by faculty invitation, complete a thesis.
