The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics program caters to students aiming for careers in applied mathematics or planning advanced studies in this field. Both B.A. and B.S. candidates can pair Mathematics with a second major, where, with advisor approval, 6 upper-division elective units may be fulfilled through courses from the secondary major. The remaining electives must be completed within the Mathematics Department. In exceptional cases, the lower-division physics requirement might be substituted with relevant courses from the second major, subject to approval from both an advisor and the department chair. Committed to education and research, the Mathematics Department strives to create an engaging environment for undergraduate and graduate students to explore and conduct research in mathematical sciences. The program equips graduates for diverse professional opportunities in academia, insurance, engineering, climate science, healthcare, legal fields, and business. Our graduates emerge prepared to take on leadership positions in our fast-changing, information-driven, multicultural world.
