The Microbiology program equips students for advanced studies or roles as research professionals across diverse sectors, including medical, pharmaceutical, agricultural, and environmental biotechnology, as well as medical device manufacturing, cosmetics, and food/water quality control. These opportunities exist in academic, government, or corporate laboratories, among other similar environments. Aligned with the College of Science and Mathematics' vision, the Biology Department fosters scientific literacy, prepares graduates for postgraduate studies, cultivates future leaders in industry and education, trains K-12 educators in science instruction, and develops candidates for biomedical fields like medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and pharmacy.
The Biology Department commits to advancing diversity, inclusion, and equity in science, addressing historical imbalances in representation and actively embracing diverse scientific viewpoints. Through education, research, and community engagement, the department implements structural reforms to create a more accessible, secure, and inclusive scientific environment for everyone.
