The Bachelor of Music program with a Strings specialization offers two tracks: Orchestral Strings and Classical Guitar (both necessitate an audition for admission). Final requirement: a one-hour recital. The Orchestral Strings track caters to aspiring professional performers, collegiate instructors, or private music educators. This curriculum also equips students for graduate-level studies. Performance avenues abound, including solo recitals, various ensemble sizes, studio sessions, and master classes. The coursework provides comprehensive training in repertoire, teaching methods, and performance techniques. Graduates will demonstrate mastery of their instrument's literature and the capacity to perform representative works, culminating in their senior recital.
After passing the entrance audition, students can audition for ensembles like the Symphonic Orchestra and Goldberg and Sons Honors String Quartet. Chamber Music Techniques is open to all without audition. Additional performance opportunities include accompanying opera and musical theater productions, as well as touring with the orchestra.
The CSUN Music department maintains a selection of high-quality string instruments and bows, available to students upon endorsement from their applied music instructor.
