The Psychology B.A. program's curriculum and degree requirements are designed for students who (1) wish to expand their liberal arts education with a psychology focus, (2) aim to prepare for psychology graduate studies, or (3) intend to pursue careers where psychological knowledge is fundamental.
The Psychology Department's philosophy centers on one key principle: Relevance. Located within a university serving an exceptionally diverse urban area, our department is dedicated to outstanding teaching, research, and community engagement. We strive to equip students with both a rigorous academic foundation in psychology and professional development opportunities. Our inclusive learning environment fosters critical thinking, creativity, interpersonal skills, ethical principles, and integrity, with strong emphasis on student mentorship. The curriculum promotes scholarly excellence, intellectual exploration, career readiness, and civic responsibility. Students develop practical skills through hands-on fieldwork, service learning, and faculty-guided research initiatives. We emphasize mastery of psychological theories, concepts, and empirical methods and their real-world applications.
Our program encompasses diverse theoretical perspectives including biological, developmental, behavioral, individual and social systems, plus learning and cognitive processes. Students develop proficiency in research methods and statistical analysis of empirical data. Through our applied social science research focus, students acquire essential competencies to address regional needs and succeed in multicultural professional environments or graduate programs.
Applicants will be considered for admission to CSUN as an international freshman if you meet the following requirements: You have earned a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale, or an average of "B" grades on an "A - F" letter grading scale. (CSUN will convert your international GPA when you apply for admission.)
