The Deaf Studies major program has two key goals: (1) to provide foundational knowledge about Deaf culture, language, history, and social experiences, and (2) to equip students for graduate studies or careers involving Deaf communities. CSUN stands out as one of the nation's rare mainstream universities offering a complete undergraduate Deaf Studies program, recognized for its excellence in deaf-related education. Students also benefit from special opportunities like joining student groups, engaging with over 200 Deaf/Hard of Hearing peers, accessing the western U.S.'s largest deafness resource collection, attending Deaf cultural events and ASL performances, and gaining work experience while earning academic credit.
