This graduate-level certificate program is tailored for students who hold bachelor's degrees in disciplines outside communication disorders, equipping them for admission to Speech-Language Pathology master's programs. Certificate recipients will achieve the same foundational knowledge typically gained through undergraduate communication disorders degrees. This includes understanding: 1) fundamental human communication and swallowing mechanisms, covering their biological, neurological, acoustic, psychological, developmental, and linguistic/cultural foundations, and 2) the characteristics of communication and swallowing disorders, including their causes, manifestations, and anatomical/physiological, acoustic, psychological, developmental, and linguistic/cultural aspects.

Hold a Bachelor's degree, and wish to continue your graduate/post-baccalaureate studies in a graduate, certificate, credential or 2nd bachelor's program at Cal State LA.
Good academic standing at the last college or university attended,
Grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 in an acceptable earned Bachelor's degree (or a GPA of at least 2.5 (out of 4.0) in the last 60 semester (or 90 quarter) units attempted)
