Students should consistently meet with their department advisor to discuss course choices and scheduling. The Bachelor of Arts in African American and Pan-African Studies requires 120 total units, with 45 units dedicated to the major. For detailed unit requirements across all degree components, including General Education and electives, students should consult their advisor. The Pan-African Studies major comprises 45 units (15 courses), with 12 units (4 courses) each at lower and upper division levels, offering some flexibility in upper division selections. Beyond core requirements, students must complete 21 elective units (7 courses), at least 4 of which should be upper division. A maximum of two courses can be taken outside the Pan-African Studies Department. Students may apply up to 4 courses (12 units) toward both major and General Education requirements, with a limit of 3 lower division and 1 upper division course. Double majors may count additional units per university guidelines. Close collaboration with the department advisor is essential for selecting suitable electives from other disciplines.
