The Liberal Studies Bachelor of Arts program features three distinct pathways. Option I, Interdisciplinary Studies in Culture and Society, enables students to develop comprehensive knowledge about how belief systems and language influence cultural practices and societal structures. Option II, Elementary Subject Matter Teacher Preparation: Traditional Pathway, delivers a well-rounded education across various disciplines, potentially qualifying students for a California Subject Examinations For Teachers: Multiple Subjects (CSET:MS) waiver. Option III, Elementary Subject Matter Teacher Preparation: Integrated Pathway, allows eligible students to simultaneously fulfill requirements for both their BA degree and a Multiple Subjects or Special Education teaching credential, with optional CSET waiver coursework. Specific guidelines and limitations govern teaching candidates, making early advising sessions with College of Arts and Letters or Liberal Studies advisors crucial. Consult the Charter College of Education section for credential program policies. Each Liberal Studies pathway prioritizes enhancing students' abilities in written communication, research proficiency, and interdisciplinary analysis of diversity across various contexts and media formats.
