CSULB's Colleges of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Liberal Arts, Business, and the Professional and Continuing Education (CPaCE) have united to deliver a Master of Science in Sustainability Management and Policy (MSSMP) program, addressing the demands of this expanding field. This interdisciplinary graduate program equips students with sought-after technical, managerial, and analytical abilities to drive sustainability-focused decision-making.

Participants will interact with sustainability organizations across local and national levels, working alongside diverse professionals from industry, government, NGOs, and academic institutions to develop leadership skills in sustainability sectors.

The program's culminating Integrative Capstone Experience (6 units) merges the multidisciplinary aspects of the curriculum. With faculty support, students undertake a 12-week collaborative project with corporate and nonprofit partners.

Qualification Requirements

Admission decisions are based on consideration of the applicant's previous academic record, statement of purpose, resume, and letters of recommendation.

Admission requirements for the MSSMP program include:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited university that includes the following coursework*:
Science or engineering courses, which could include Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Physics, Geology and Engineering.
Microeconomics
Minimum grade point average of 2.75 in the last 60 semester units attempted, and in good standing at the last college attended.
A statement of purpose
A recent resume
Two letters of recommendation
Have earned a grade point average of at least 2.5 on the last degree completed by the candidate or have attained a grade point average of at least 2.5 (A=4.0) in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted
International applicants must take TOEFL and score a minimum of (i) 80 on the online version or (ii) 550 on the paper version of this examination.
A score of 4.0 or higher on the writing portion of the GMAT or GRE may be used to waive the TOEFL requirement for international applicants.
