CSULB's Master's program in history is perfect for those aiming for doctoral studies, secondary educators, career professionals pursuing advanced degrees, and dedicated lifelong learners.

Our alumni have continued their academic journeys at prestigious institutions like Princeton, Yale, Cornell, UCLA, the University of London, UC Santa Barbara, and UC San Diego. Many have also found success as high school educators, community college instructors, and professionals in fields such as government, real estate, business, and the National Park Service.

This five-semester curriculum provides students with personalized faculty guidance, intensive training in historical research techniques (including critical analysis, synthesis, and writing), and the flexibility to focus on specialized areas like U.S., European, World History, or Ancient and Medieval History.

Participants develop mastery in two concentration areas and can select from three culminating options: Comprehensive Exams, a thesis, or a teaching unit (designed mainly for secondary educators).

With its national reputation, accessible evening courses, faculty mentorship, and competitive tuition, our program serves both full-time students and working professionals exceptionally well.
