The Center provides two academic options in Medieval and Renaissance Studies: a Minor for undergraduates and a Certificate open to both undergraduate and graduate students. Additionally, the Center organizes professional activities including guest lectures and seminars. Students complete 21 credits chosen with guidance from their program advisor, along with four semesters (or equivalent) of foreign language instruction. These 21 credits comprise 9 credits of required courses in History, Literature, and Art History, 9 elective credits from at least two academic departments (which may overlap with core course departments), and 3 credits of independent research.

Qualification Requirements

A bachelor's degree with an approved major. Certificate may be completed prior to the completion of the B.A. requirement or while in the process of working toward an advanced degree.
Consultation and approval of the program with a faculty advisor.
Equivalent courses may be accepted in areas A, B, and C by the faculty advisor in consultation with the program director(s).
Four semesters (six quarters) of appropriate foreign language study (or equivalent competence as determined by qualified CSULB faculty).
Note - Up to 6 units of study may be fulfilled with lower-division courses with the approval of the faculty advisor in consultation with the program director(s).

Have earned a grade point average of at least 2.5 on the last degree completed by the candidate or have attained a grade point average of at least 2.5 (A=4.0) in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted.
