This program provides two specialization options: Italian Language and Culture or Interdisciplinary Italian Studies. Frequent advisor meetings are strongly advised. We highly recommend participating in study abroad opportunities, including the CSU International Program in Florence, Italy, or semester programs in Rome and Venice. Additionally, the summer study abroad program in Recanati, Italy, lasting one month, is an excellent choice, offering both language/cultural studies and internship possibilities. Local internship opportunities are available at Italian and Italian-American organizations in the Long Beach area. After completing first- and second-year language requirements, students progress to third-year core courses taught in Italian. Fourth-year students select their specialization: those pursuing teaching credentials typically choose Concentration I: Italian Language and Culture, while students preferring broader studies opt for Concentration II: Interdisciplinary Italian Studies. Both concentrations share foundational coursework.
