The Department of Communication Studies offers students a comprehensive liberal arts education focused on communication arts and sciences, providing specialized instruction in communication techniques at both undergraduate and graduate levels. All students must meet with either the undergraduate or graduate department advisor for guidance.
Graduates earning a BA in Communication Studies will develop the ability to:
Distinguish between the objectives, theories, and approaches of rhetorical versus social scientific research
Create impactful communications through careful consideration of subject matter, target audience, and situational factors
Apply research methodologies by developing study questions, constructing theoretical arguments, and evaluating diverse forms of evidence
Employ analytical reasoning when examining messages
Articulate how communication shapes personal and societal identities, and how these identities affect communicative interactions
