The Master of Music in Performance is a practice-oriented program comprising 30 units of coursework in private instruction, ensemble participation, chamber music, music history, and music theory. The Cal State Fullerton School of Music boasts faculty members who are acclaimed performers, scholars, and composers on both national and international stages. Students flourish in a dynamic setting that fosters rigorous musical excellence while providing personalized mentorship. This degree serves as a pathway to DMA programs for those pursuing doctoral studies, with two specialization options: theory/composition and performance. The M.M. program aims to develop graduates who: possess expert-level understanding of music history, literature, and theory; demonstrate advanced, reflective musicianship through performance, improvisation, composition, and analysis at a pre-professional standard; enter their field with exceptional expertise; maintain professional communication standards in research and presentations; exhibit leadership in collaborative academic and performance settings; pursue innovative artistic exploration in programming; and integrate global perspectives and contemporary trends into their musical practice, composition, education, and career growth.
