The field of social work and our Department of Social Work Education focus on addressing the wide-ranging needs of vulnerable individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. As a hands-on profession, our graduates tackle issues spanning from systemic discrimination to personal emotional and behavioral challenges. Our program trains social workers to assist marginalized groups such as those experiencing poverty, homelessness, abuse, or neglect - including children, adults, people of color, women, refugees, individuals with mental health conditions, developmental disabilities, physical illnesses, addiction issues, those involved in the justice system, and elderly populations. Students learn to employ both conventional and innovative approaches to enhance quality of life, personal development, and equitable treatment through methods like advocacy, consultation, counseling (individual, family, and group), mediation, research, supervision, and education.
Our master's program in social work develops highly skilled practitioners capable of addressing multifaceted client needs across various human service environments. Graduates emerge prepared to take on diverse professional roles using multiple practice approaches, ready for independent practice at different intervention levels or for pursuing doctoral studies in social work and related human service fields.
