The Department of Viticulture and Enology strives to serve as a premier global institution, addressing the educational requirements of both students and the wider public. Our program delivers comprehensive studies in viticulture and winemaking, blending these disciplines with core scientific subjects (including biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics) and leadership training to create a robust academic framework.
Founded in July 2000 at California State University, Fresno, the Department of Viticulture and Enology grounds its curriculum in fundamental sciences like botany, chemistry, soil studies, and microbiology. Viticulture and enology courses enable students to apply scientific principles to grape cultivation and wine production, with ample practical learning opportunities. Our institution boasts unparalleled teaching resources, featuring 120 acres of vineyards producing table, raisin, and wine grapes, alongside a fully operational 50,000-gallon winery and a small-scale raisin processing plant. This distinctive integration of academic rigor and state-of-the-art facilities has cultivated generations of acclaimed viticulturists and winemakers.
