The Bachelor of Science in Health Science program features a foundational core of five essential courses that equip students with crucial knowledge and skills for healthcare professions. Students then select a specialized concentration, offering comprehensive training in their chosen field. While multiple concentration combinations are available to align with career objectives, university regulations permit only one concentration to be officially recorded on academic documents.
To earn the B.S. in Health Science, students must fulfill 48 units of General Education requirements, complete a 15-unit core curriculum specific to their chosen concentration, select one of three available concentrations (21-27 units), and meet additional concentration-specific requirements (11-33 units). The program also includes upper-division writing proficiency, Multicultural and International (M/I) components, and elective courses. Completing prerequisite courses before major coursework is advisable, as these may satisfy General Education requirements while building essential knowledge for health science studies. Electives can also be applied toward certificate programs.
Health science majors should obtain an academic roadmap from their department, which outlines all required courses. Strict adherence to the recommended course sequence is strongly advised. Students must consult with academic advisors regarding major and minor course selections, with all course substitutions requiring departmental chair approval. Note that some Health Science Department courses may include practical fieldwork components.
