To earn a Bachelor of Arts in Latin American Studies, students must complete at least 120 credit units, encompassing major coursework, General Education requirements, electives, and all university mandates. Candidates pursuing this degree must maintain good academic standing with a minimum 2.75 GPA. Prerequisite lower-division courses must be finished before advancing to upper-division classes.
This interdisciplinary program offers comprehensive knowledge of Latin America through multiple academic lenses. Participants are highly recommended to study abroad for a semester in Latin America, Spain, or Portugal. Graduates should achieve fluency in Spanish or Portuguese, with incoming students advised to have at least three years of prior language study in one of these languages.
The Latin American Studies B.A. equips graduates for advanced academic pursuits or careers in government, international agencies, or education at various levels. It also establishes a solid base for private sector opportunities, particularly in international commerce or Latin America-focused roles.
Have graduated from high school (earning a high school diploma), have earned a Certificate of General Education Development (GED) or have passed the California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE)
English language Score: TOEFL – 61 iBT, or IELTS – 6.0 or with 5.5 Band score in each section, or ELS Language Centers - Level 112, or Pearson's Test of English – 45. Application Deadlines: Fall - July 1 and Spring - November 1.
