The Department of Social Work provides graduate education culminating in a Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) degree. This curriculum prepares social work professionals for both leadership roles and hands-on practice, with accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education. Emphasizing multicultural perspectives, the program equips graduates to serve in nonprofit organizations and public institutions while developing expertise in assisting varied populations within urban settings.
California State University, East Bay's Master of Social Work program aims to produce culturally aware urban practitioners specializing in Children, Youth, and Families as well as Community Mental Health. Graduates gain the skills to meet the needs of individuals, families, groups, and communities affected by systemic disparities related to socioeconomic status and identity factors such as race, ethnicity, gender, age, ability, sexual orientation, migration status, faith, caste, and other social inequities. The program's foundation lies in promoting advocacy and systemic transformation to combat these injustices. We aspire to develop a diverse network of change agents who will collaborate with communities to dismantle oppressive structures.
