The School Counseling specialization equips future professionals to become school counselors who employ data-informed, holistic programs and services to champion social justice, equity, inclusion, and diversity across P-20 educational environments. Students may choose to extend their fieldwork to qualify for an Associate Marriage and Family Therapy License (Intern License), broadening their career opportunities to support children and families both within and beyond school settings. This program focuses on cultivating socially conscious professionals skilled in creating, executing, and assessing comprehensive initiatives that emphasize educational prevention through developmentally suitable and culturally aware methods.
The 60-unit Master of Science in Counseling curriculum aligns with university and program standards, ensuring all candidates gain substantial knowledge breadth, practical experience, and research exposure. Those pursuing a Pupil Personnel Service Credential in School Counseling or School Psychology should consult their respective program pages. The PPS Credential can be earned concurrently with the M.S. in Counseling through either the School Counseling or School Psychology specializations.
