Religion has shaped art, culture, philosophy, psychology, and sociopolitical thought by exploring life's fundamental questions, making its study a gateway to intellectual enrichment. With its cross-cultural scope and multidisciplinary methods, Religious Studies explores diverse spiritual traditions and practices. Our program utilizes various analytical frameworks to examine religious values, doctrines, and customs, providing students with comprehensive training in scholarly techniques. Designed to foster interdisciplinary exploration, the program includes specialized options for dual-degree seekers.

Religious Studies approaches faith traditions from an objective, academic perspective. Our faculty inspire students to rigorously examine their own worldviews while maintaining intellectual passion. The curriculum immerses learners in humanity's timeless quest for meaning through challenging inquiries and transformative ideas, cultivating inquisitive minds and engaged citizens. This academic discipline enhances professional and personal development while honing valuable critical thinking and writing skills applicable across careers. Partnering with IREPP, the department connects students with contemporary societal debates. The yearly CSUB Philosophy and Religious Studies Undergraduate Conference showcases student research from multiple institutions across these interconnected fields.
