CSUB's Interdisciplinary Studies Programs enable students to explore ideas, topics, and viewpoints that transcend conventional academic boundaries, while creatively blending components from different fields. The university provides three Interdisciplinary Studies focus areas: Ethnic and Area Studies.
Interdisciplinary Studies, BA Program Aims and Outcomes
Objective I: Cultivating comprehensive, integrated understanding.
Learners will evaluate multifaceted subjects by synthesizing core principles, ethics, and methodologies from multiple academic fields.
Objective II: Fostering transdisciplinary competencies.
Participants will demonstrate proficient communication, both verbal and written, adapting to diverse disciplinary formats for various purposes and audiences.
Working independently or collaboratively, students will address contemporary challenges by employing integrative solutions that incorporate perspectives from multiple disciplines.
Objective III: Implementing interdisciplinary methodologies in specialized tracks.
Students in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies will utilize feminist and critical frameworks to investigate how gender interacts with race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, citizenship, ability, and other aspects of identity.
Ethnic and Area Studies scholars will employ interdisciplinary methods to conduct comparative, intersectional analyses of African American, Asian American, Chicana/o-Latina/o, and Indigenous communities within local, regional, national, and global frameworks.
