Students in Criminology and Justice Studies experience a vibrant, collaborative academic environment focused on criminological theories, research methods, justice disparities, legal frameworks, and social advocacy. Our interdisciplinary faculty bring diverse expertise to tackle contemporary challenges within America's legal and justice systems.
Those aiming for conventional justice system careers—including policing, parole, or corrections—will gain the knowledge base to drive meaningful reform in these areas.
We equip graduates to become change-makers across multiple sectors, from parole supervision and legal representation to grassroots organizing and policy analysis. Prospective students should note Humboldt's CJS program does NOT provide vocational training for police or correctional roles. Rather, we offer a humanities-based curriculum prioritizing analytical reasoning, theory implementation, and hands-on research—qualities employers consistently value across justice-related professions.
