Students in the Cannabis Studies program examine cannabis from historical, cultural, social, political, and legal perspectives using social and environmental justice approaches. Our interdisciplinary major features faculty from 18 academic disciplines who mentor students to become advocates for social transformation within intricate policy environments. Aligned with liberal arts education objectives, the program cultivates abilities in analytical reasoning, written and verbal communication across diverse groups, and thoughtful interaction with scientific research. These competencies are highly sought after in various employment sectors and graduate programs, equipping alumni for diverse career trajectories both within and beyond cannabis-related fields—including public policy, social justice initiatives, regulatory compliance, academic research, and advanced degree programs. The curriculum does not provide instruction on cannabis cultivation, processing, or sales.
Specializations in Equity & Social Justice and Environmental Stewardship prepare students for careers focused on societal cannabis integration, spanning community organizing to policy development.
