The Geobiology specialization within GPS brings together researchers and scholars exploring the interactions between living systems and Earth's physical processes. Our investigations cover vast timescales, from life's origins and development on the primitive Earth to its presence in extraordinary extreme habitats and its influence on contemporary biogeochemical systems. This interdisciplinary work bridges traditional divides between earth sciences, chemical geology, ecological studies, microbial science, and genetic research. The program provides both bachelor's degree options and doctoral studies. Graduates and postdoctoral researchers pursue careers in diverse scientific disciplines, as well as various sectors including biotech, genomic sciences, and healthcare. Geobiological research employs both laboratory-based biochemical experimentation and field-based geological analysis.
