The Fine Arts graduate program draws a global community of budding artists who collaborate with esteemed faculty and guest lecturers in the culturally rich San Francisco Bay Area. Housed within one of the nation's premier art and design institutions, this two-year MFA curriculum fosters an environment of critical discussion, studio practice, and community involvement. It encourages cross-disciplinary approaches spanning multiple artistic forms and theoretical frameworks. Rather than specializing in a single medium, students earn a Fine Arts degree while exploring diverse formats such as painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, film, participatory art, and immersive installations. Participants gain access to a supportive network, conceptual frameworks, and practical skills to actively contribute to contemporary art spheres during their studies and beyond.
Alumni of the MFA Fine Arts program engage with numerous facets of today's art world after completing their studies. They leverage their training as socially conscious creators and intellectuals to build international artistic careers while also exploring alternative trajectories such as founding artist collectives and galleries, entering academia, pursuing art criticism, or working in cultural institutions.
