Established in 1912, the Jewelry and Metal Arts program stands as one of the most prestigious and longest-running in its discipline. Students engage with diverse jewelry creation and design methods under the guidance of faculty celebrated both nationally and internationally. Situated in the Bay Area, we benefit from proximity to top-tier museums, galleries, an active metalsmithing network, and material vendors. For over 100 years, CCA's Jewelry & Metal Arts department has provided metal arts instruction, focusing on expert craftsmanship, historical context, conceptual depth, and craft philosophy. The curriculum covers fabrication methods to produce exquisite metal pieces, from wearable art to avant-garde sculptures, while establishing core metalsmithing skills through examination of both traditional and modern practices.
Graduates launch independent ventures, instruct at art institutions, showcase in museums and galleries, secure artist residencies, and enroll in elite graduate programs where they maintain creative partnerships with fellow metalsmiths and artists.
