The program provides sufficient flexibility to enable students to finish the degree in two, three, or four semesters of full-time study, based on their academic background. Part-time enrollment is also an option, extending the completion timeline. To earn the ScM in Physics, students must complete 8 credits from 2000-level courses. Four of these must be chosen from the PhD program's six core courses (PHYS2010, 2030, 2040, 2050, 2060, 2140). Writing a Master's thesis is strongly encouraged as it plays a vital role in professional development, and one of the eight required courses can be thesis preparation. Students must also complete three extra 2000-level credits, which can be selected from remaining core courses or other advanced physics offerings. With the program director's approval, up to two of these additional courses may be taken outside the physics department.
Applicants are expected to have a strong background in physics or closely related subjects at the undergraduate level.
Regarding TOEFL, the recommended minimum score for admission consideration is 577 on the paper-based test and 90 on the Internet-based test. For IELTS, the recommended minimum overall band score is 7.
