The Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (ATOC) offers an interdisciplinary curriculum focused on studying the dynamic, physical, and chemical interactions within Earth's atmosphere and oceans. Central to our mission is developing scientific frameworks for climate analysis, observation techniques, and global change modeling.
Current CU-Boulder graduate students or bachelor's degree holders enrolled as non-degree ACCESS students can earn a Graduate Certificate in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. This requires successful completion of four ATOC graduate courses (3 credits each) or approved cross-listed equivalents (such as ATOC 5151 or CHEM 5151), excluding courses from your primary department. A minimum grade of B is required in each course to fulfill certificate requirements.
Applicants must:
Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, or have done work equivalent to that required for such a degree.
Show promise of ability to pursue advanced study and research, as judged by the student’s scholastic record.
Have adequate preparation to enter graduate study in the chosen field. Have at least a 2.75 (2.00=C) undergraduate grade point average.
All international applicants are required to meet a minimum standard of English proficiency.
