This cross-disciplinary graduate program aims to equip both recent graduates and experienced professionals who hold a bachelor's degree and are proficient in Portuguese with a humanities and social sciences education centered on Portuguese-speaking cultures. The degree follows similar requirements to the A.M. in Brazilian Studies, with the distinction that candidates must complete at least three courses in Portuguese literature, history, and culture, plus three courses focusing on Brazilian literature, history, and culture. Language proficiency can be demonstrated either by completing POBS 1030 or passing a competency test. Like other departmental Master's programs, this degree requires a final project unless the student opts for a coursework-only completion.
