The experimental particle physics group primarily investigates nature's behavior at the highest achievable laboratory energy levels. We're deeply drawn to the groundbreaking discoveries possible at these energy frontiers. Currently, CERN's Large Hadron Collider represents this frontier, expected to reveal secrets of Electroweak Symmetry Breaking and potentially uncover phenomena beyond the Standard Model. The Brown HEP group's core research centers on involvement with the LHC's CMS experiment. This next-generation facility provides nearly ten times more energy than previous colliders, promising numerous significant findings. The July 2012 identification of a Higgs-like particle marked a major milestone for both the LHC and particle physics as a whole.
