Our program aims to seamlessly integrate the MD and PhD components. MD/PhD students gather every two weeks for meetings, no matter which stage they're at in their training. These regular gatherings foster peer support and guidance from program directors. Following their first year of medical school, students take part in a summer lab techniques course to establish foundational research abilities. During PhD training, students undertake a family medicine clerkship to shape research interests through clinical exposure. The first two years' curriculum matches exactly between MD and MD/PhD candidates, featuring a two-part structure: Integrated Medical Sciences for core sciences and Doctoring for clinical skill development. Patient interactions begin within the initial weeks of Year 1. MD/PhD students enjoy greater scheduling flexibility during clinical rotations. While completing the same core clerkships as MD students, they may allocate up to 20 elective weeks toward advancing their graduate research.
