The Geochemistry and Environmental Chemistry program provides two distinct focus areas. The low-temperature track examines chemical and biochemical interactions at Earth's surface, encompassing terrestrial, marine, and freshwater systems, while analyzing how geochemical data reflects climate patterns. The high-temperature concentration explores planetary formation, magma dynamics, volcanic phenomena, and metamorphic processes.
Students can pursue either an A.B. (12 courses) or Sc.B. (19 courses) degree, both cultivating analytical reasoning, computational modeling, problem-solving abilities, and communication skills. DEEPS fosters a cooperative educational setting that prioritizes experiential learning through classroom activities, laboratory work, and field studies. Numerous paid research opportunities exist for students during summer breaks and regular semesters.
Students should complete secondary school. Brown first-year students will have completed 12 to 13 years of primary and secondary schooling.
A TOEFL score of 100 or above on the internet-based exam, or 600 or above on the paper-based exam, or a score of 8.0 or above on the IELTS, is expected in most cases.
